The Confucius Institute and other Chinese language learning centers in Cameroon trained about 10 000 people today, we officially learned.
This rush to learn the Chinese language, according to officials of the learning centers, reflects the increasing opportunities learning the Chinese language has in terms of employment in the country.
Indeed, thanks to the launch of infrastructure projects in Cameroon, where majority of the projects are carried out by Chinese companies, many companies from the Middle Kingdom have settled in Cameroon, and knowledge of the Chinese language thus appears to be an advantage to be recruited by these companies.
In addition, many local traders see in the Chinese language an opportunity to strengthen business relations with their Chinese partners. For traders who import goods from China, mastery of the Chinese language generally allows for bargains once in the Chinese field.
As a reminder, between 2000-2014, about 2750 billion FCFA of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received by Cameroon, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), China alone has provided 70%, becoming the largest investor in the country, according to statistics from the Cameroon Ministry of Economy.
