Some kidnappers have demanded the sum of 100 million FCFA in exchange for the release of seven people they held in captive for two days.

This incident comes after a hunter had killed 8 people in Bot-Makak in the Nyong-et-Kelle, Central Region, another sordid affair which shook the entire capital of Adamawa.

According to the daily newspaper, Mutations, the kidnappers threatened to execute seven people if the families did not continuously pay the sum of 100 million FCFA.

"Seven people, who were farmers and shepherds, were abducted on Sunday night by heavily armed individuals. The kidnappers raided late at night when the people were unsuspicious," wrote Mutations which revealed that the scene occurred in the Saltaka village, in the district of Ngaoundere III.

According to the testimony of an inhabitant named Abdurahman, “I was lying in my house when I heard gunshots. I realized that there was something abnormal happening. The following morning was when I heard the news of the kidnapping of my friends by gunmen. They demanded 100 million FCFA, otherwise, they will all be executed," he told the newspaper.

The D.O of Ngaoundere III and the commander of the gendarmerie legion of Adamawa conducted today, Tuesday, a field visit.

“For now, calm has returned to the village. We met with the families of the victims and we are on the look out to get our hands on these men,” said Amada Zainapa épse Amadou Boukar D.O of the Ngaoundere III sub-division.

Our colleague recalled that “the scene that happened at Salatka village is strangely similar to the one that happened recently at Dir where the kidnappers threatened to execute 11 people by demanding ransoms. The silence of desperate families and the 'impotence' of the authorities led the armed gangs to enforce their threat: the 11 hostages were executed.”
