All Africa Games: Cameroon female athletes shine

Jeux africains 2015 Jeux africains 2015

The 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville (2015) will be over in 24 hours.

Congo's capital will say goodbye to the athletes after three weeks of sports games that have uncovered another image of Central Africa in particular and Africa as a whole. For each of the 45 nations attending the event, the time is good.

For Cameroon, the harvest will certainly be lower than that of Maputo four years ago (33 medals, including 8 gold). With just more than a day of competition, the country has 21 medals (7 in gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze). Not enough to pop the champagne, it's true, but a good reason to be satisfied. It is a great performance from female athletes.

The expression of this growing power of women's sport in Cameroon, it is the path of women's national teams in collective disciplines. Indomitable Lionesses of football will contest the final on September 18 against the Black Queens of Ghana. The Maputo remake of 2011. The Lionesses were victorious (1-0). They reached the 8th final of the female World Cup 2015 in Canada and qualified for the final round of qualifying for the Olympic Games "Rio 2016", Christine Manie and partners have the opportunity to demonstrate that they are currently the best team on the continent.

Women's handball is also in the spotlight. Cameroon qualified for the semi-final clash that same September 18. The girls of Coach Jean-Marie Zambo are up to the task after their brilliant performance throughout the group stage.

The Cameroonian women's sport also carries prowess in the individual disciplines. After gold in the triple jump, Joelle Sandrine Mbumi won silver in the long jump. Auriol Dogmo for her part kept her rank by retaining her title in the Shot Put.

Annabel Laure Ali also has not failed in freestyle wrestling. The triple champion of Africa was the highest in the category of -72 kg. Before then, Hélène Wezeu was awarded the gold medal in the -63 kg judo.

In all, 4 of the 7 gold medals in Cameroon have been won by female athletes. This can increase as the football and handball women's teams are to challenge for more.
