The Italian Head of State's visit to Cameroon barely one year after his election into office indicates that bilateral relations between both countries are flourishing.
Diplomatic relations between Cameroon and Italy date to as far back as 1962 when Cameroon received the first Italian Ambassador to Cameroon. Accordingly, Cameroon’s first Chargé d’Affaires to Rome arrived Italy in 1964.
The numerical presence of Italians in Cameroon and Cameroonians studying in Italy also go a long way to prove that relations between the two countries are thriving.
In the economic domain, Cameroonians have taken part in many economic forums organized in Italy.
Meantime, the sectors of health and religion have seen better days through cooperation with Italy.
Many health centres in the country like the Cardiac Centre of Shishong in Kumbo in the North West Region of Cameroon are fruit of Italian cooperation.
Even the outstanding presence of the Catholic Mission in Cameroon goes a long way to tell the tale of the firm partnership between Cameroon and Italy; a partnership President Sergio Mattarella comes to reinforce during his four-day working visit in Cameroon.
