The restored statue of General Leclerc set up by the government in Bonanjo is now surrounded by a metal barrier protection, hit symbols of the city of Douala.
Indeed, one recalls that the statue of the French officer had suffered several months ago the wrath of the activist (André Blaise Essama).
André Blaise Essama had "repeatedly been spotted peeing shamelessly on the statue of General Leclerc located just meters from that of the Unknown Soldier, erected in tribute to our dead compatriots on the field in battle of World War 2, "says the newspaper.

On May 24, "he toppled the statue, beheaded the head of the famous French officer. He had then hidden under his bed to force the city authorities to remove it from Bonanjo replacing it with the statue of Ruben Um Nyobé "adds West Coast. This act earned him "a flash stay in the services of the Mobile Intervention Group No. 2 in the city of Douala."

For now, the statue of the French officer is not likely to be addressed by renowned activist who stays for more than three months ago at the central prison of New Bell in Douala. Reason for his detention: "Having destroyed the statue of the Unknown Soldier, located in the heart of Bonanjo".
