In Cameroon, six people abducted for more than six months by Nigerian Islamist Boko Haram which is now called Islamic state in West Africa, managed to escape. Six former hostages were presented Thursday to the Cameroonian authorities, Fotokol.

The six hostages took advantage of a Nigerian military offensive to escape. The offensive was on the same site where they were detained near the village of Gambaru, Nigeria side, but near the Cameroon border.

The head of communications of the Ministry of Defence of Cameroon confirmed the information. He said it was a "victory" made possible by the "perfect coordination between the armies." The hostages were in the market between Gambaru and Fotokol, which houses a Cameroonian military camp.
They were kidnapped last June in Cameroon during an incursion of Boko Haram, said a military security source. The now former hostages are all male, in their thirties, the source said.

They are truck drivers from the West and Centre regions of Cameroon. We know that the former hostages were transported by air to an undisclosed location to undergo medical examinations, but primarily to be interviewed. These six Cameroonians, in fact, represent a valuable source of information for the Cameroon security services; the military does not hide it. The region of the Far North of Cameroon is the subject of frequent incursions by Boko Haram. And since July, it is mainly targeted by suicide bombers.
