The Cameroonian government Tuesday announced the recruitment of 3000 teachers in the public service during the fiscal year, to strengthen primary school education in the country.
According to the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) responsible for vocational education, Boniface Bayaola, “this is the first wave of teachers who will be directly recruited into the public service in the coming years."
In other words, the teachers will be recruited immediately which suggests that the list will be published before the end of January 2016.
Collaborating testimonies including government and the United Nations Organization Studies Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reported the lack of teachers, especially in rural areas who sometimes have one teacher in a primary school full cycle.
It is a situation that generally leads to associations of parents to carry loads for the recruitment of temporary teachers.
After this first wave, the government could proceed with the recruitment of 3,000 new teachers, about 2,000 teachers from national schools of teachers of general education (ENIEG) and 1,000 from other private institutions.
The recruitment of this year is the first after the contracting of nearly 7,000 part-time teachers (IVAC) five years ago, in the wake of recruiting 25,000 state employees in the public service.
