President Paul Biya has signed two decrees dismissing superior officers of the Navy.
The first decree dismisses Captain Omballa Minso, Deputy in charge of the naval forces in the 4th Joint Military Region. He was replaced by Didier Nakong Captain.
In the other decree, Paul Biya, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, relieves Commander Agber Ndifor of his functions at the 22nd Marine fusilier battalion of the 2nd Joint Military Region. He was replaced by Commander Zogo Fouda Abraham.
Despite the lack of reasons for the dismissal of the senior officers, news of tensions between the soldiers of the Cameroonian navy engaged in the war against Boko Haram and their superiors has been circulating in both Cameroonian and international media for four months.
Recently, in an open letter to Paul Biya, some soldiers of the Navy complained of abuse, diversion of their bonuses and many other shortcomings.
The decisions taken Wednesday evening by the President is a first step that aims to calm the discontent soldiers.
