The construction work of the Mengong-Sangmelima road is set to start on December 1.
This 74km road is the first section of the Sangmelima-Ebolowa-Kribi highway and the National 17 which will open up the South Region.
The construction market of the Mengong-Sangmélima road was signed in June 2011. However, the work ended in July 11, 2011, after difficulties including compensation of the 33 villages along the road.
The contractors, Galdiano Group was declared bankrupt and abandoned the project. In 2014, the government announced the resumption of work, which were made at 18%, with the maneuver of another Spanish company, Azor Constructura, but it ended up with nothing.
The construction site will be relaunched with the Arab Contractors company, announced Nganou Emmanuel Djoumessi, Minister of Public Works.
The latter, accompanied by the Secretary of State for roads, told CRTV that they visited the construction site, as well as the resident of the contractors on Thursday.
In terms of compensation and because of the work stoppage, the Minister Emmanuel Djoumessi Nganou reassured all residents concerned stating that "the government always respects its obligations", sources informed.
This project involves two departments: Mvilla and Dja-et-Lobo. The work funded by the public investment budget will cost over 57 billion FCFA. Work duration will be 30 months.
