L’Union des Mouvements Sportifs (UMS) de Loum and New Stars of Douala were the two football clubs that defended the colours of Cameroon last Saturday, February 27, 2016, within the preliminaries of the Confederation Cup.
Traveling to Bata in Equatorial Guinea, Ums was beaten by Recreativo de Mongomo on the final score of 4 goals against 2.
The two adversaries had split in the first leg on a goalless draw on 13 February at the Douala Reunification Stadium.
The Cameroonian was eliminated following its underperformance in Bata.
The holder of the Cup of Cameroon was forced to play at night, following their late arrival in Equatorial Guinea.
After refusing for four days to UMS Loum entry visas to his country, the Consul of Equatorial Guinea finally relented, later on, Friday, February 26, 2016, after several interventions.
The Delegation of UMS of Loum landed in Bata less than 24 hours before her match against Recreativo, their host. To believe the leaders of the Cameroonian club, psychological tests subjected by the Consul of Equatorial Guinea on their players is the main cause of the collapse of the UMS Loum.
Meanwhile, at the Douala Reunification Stadium, New Stars encounter against visiting Renaissance of Ndjamena ended 2-2.
The Chadian visitors scored two goals with a doubled from Mahamat Karim, who scored respectively in the 28th and 60th minutes to help Renaissance to quickly kill the game.
However, New stars reacted by coming from behind to use three minutes to drew tally with two goals from Alexandre Nsangué in the 87th minute and Gael Gregory Nkama in the 90th minute.
With a score of 2 goals from both sides after the final whistle, Renaissance of Ndjamena goes into the 16th final of the Confederation Cup. New stars were thus eliminated.
She has dominated this rematch. But with a defensive compartment in the street and an awkward line of attack, New Stars of Douala have not materialized ten scoring chances they have created.
UMS Loum and New Stars of Douala were having their first experience in competitions organized by CAF. But premature elimination by Chad and Equatorial Guinea clubs is another proof that the Cameroonian football, unbeatable yesterday in the Central African sub-region, has deeply regressed today.
