Tottenham Hotspur forward Clinton Njie will be unavailable for selection for up to three months after he underwent surgery for a knee injury, as per BBC Sport.
The 22-year-old Cameroon international was forced off with the injury 78 minutes into Spurs’ 4-1 win over Monaco at White Hart Lane on December 10th and hasn’t played since.
Njie joined Spurs in a £12m deal from Lyon after enjoying a productive 2014-15 campaign and has since made seven Premier League appearances, all of which have come via the substitutes bench.
So far the youngster has failed to make much of an impression in English football, failing to score a goal in the Premier League or in Europe. Meanwhile, his 62% passing accuracy rate in the league is the lowest in the squad.
Nevertheless, his setback is an untimely blow as Spurs are lacking options up front and face a number of important fixtures over the festive period.
“I don’t know [how long he will be out] but we expect maybe two months or two and a half,” Pochettino said.
Aside from top scorer Harry Kane, head coach Mauricio Pochettino has hardly any backup to call upon, with Son Heung-min and Nacer Chadli the only other players to have played up front under the Argentinian.
Pochettino failed with a deadline day bid for Saido Berahino in September and Njie’s injury will only further convince the Spurs boss that he needs to supplement his forward options next month.
Spurs face promoted duo Norwich City and Watford in their next two Premier League games this week.
