The issue was raised on Thursday during a press conference granted by Joseph Antoine Bell in Yaoundé.
According to the former goalkeeper of the Indomitable Lions, the President of FECAFOOT Standards Committee should put aside issues not related to Cameroonian football. “Professor Owona cannot prove that he does not, among the other candidates, have a particular aversion towards me,” he speculated.
An associate of the former Saint-Etienne stated that Joseph Owona’s had an issue with him a long time ago. “This gentleman is the one who called in 1994 at the hotel telling Alain Noah: even if the sky should fall on your head, Joseph Antoine Bell would not play a part," said the candidate flunked in the next election as President of FECAFOOT.
He also added that: "I must be the only candidate that he responded to by sending copies to the President of the Republic, the FIFA president, the president of CAF, the Pope and Imam of Mecca. But having done that, Prof. Owona has not sent me a mail. He sent it to everyone except me.”
That is not all. "Mr. Owona and his Committee still have my two million since last year. Logic would have dictated that if I was not a candidate, he should invite me to come for my record and my deposit." But he added, “If he did not, it would mean that he himself still considers me as a candidate. The letter from Fifa said five candidates. We asked Professor Owona and his Committee to say who the five candidates were? They never responded.”
