Cameroon Women National Team, the Indomitable Lionesses, have conquered Africa, voted Women National Team of the Year at the 24th edition of the CAF Glo Awards.
The success story of the Lionesses in 2015 started with the African Women Championship, Namibia 2014, where the team emerged as vice African Champions and by the same measure, qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Canada 2015.
Their progression swelled as the team in their first World Cup game thrashed Ecuador 6-0, beat Switzerland 2-1 though sacked at the knock-out stage, a feat by an African team.
The Lionesses made African women football teams dream of winning the World Cup one day and portrayed that African women football in years to come would flirt on the same level with Europe, in the quality of players.
By exploding at the international scene, the Lionesses proved to the world that it had qualities and potentials to go places. Playing the African Games without its key players, the team made it to the finals and won Silver.
Though the team crashed out of the Olympic Games race, their progress is undisputable and they have become a force to reckon with. Behind this great team is a great tactician, Enow Ngachu who pulled the strings, directing the team with style, having coached the squad for over eight years.
