The Aéroports du Cameroun (Afd)ADC will manage the airports of the country until 2065 after the State of Cameroon and the company signed an agreement on Tuesday in Yaoundé.
La Nouvelle Expression (ESA) newspaper reported that "based on a new agreement, the State of Cameroon has handed over the management and operation of airports to Adc for 50 years. These include the Yaoundé-Nsimalen, Douala, Ngaoundere, Maroua-Salack, Garoua, Bamenda and Bertoua Airports."
The agreement signed by Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o, the Minister of Transport and Alamine Ousmane Mey, the Minister of Finance; who represented the state, and the representative of ADC by Thomas Owona Assoumou, the CEO of ADC, contains innovations from the last contract dating 1994.
The document "fixed accurately, the tasks of the concessionaire and the grantor's expectations for investment, service quality, safety and financial performance. Its duration allows the dealer to acquire the means to plan long term investment and implementation at the state level-licensor, a monitoring mechanism and concession control," said the Minister of Transport.
The log information also had it that France, a shareholder of the company, through the French Development Agency (AFD) has disbursed FCFA 30 billion for ADC. An amount which would enable the Group to fulfill its missions as quoted by ESA to "ensure the functioning and operation of those airports and seek funds for investments."
ADC will therefore not be allowed to make mistakes, the boss of Transport told the Dg. He added that "with all these innovations, the Adc SA dealership now has full flexibility to fully ensure the tasks it was given especially when Cameroon prepares to host two major sporting events of the continental level, namely the African Nations Cup in 2016 and 2019."
