The 2016 Doing Business report of the World Bank was officially released on Tuesday, October 27, 2015.
It is bad news for Cameroon who lost 4 places in this ranking. Ranked 168th last year, Cameroon now ranks 172nd out of 189 countries evaluated.
According to the report, "no progress has been recorded in Cameroon on the ten Doing Business indicators, which are: business creation, obtaining building permits, connection to electricity, property transfer, paying taxes, trading across borders, obtaining loans, protecting investors, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency. "
"Classification of Cameroon is particularly disgraceful that the country finds herself far behind countries like Ghana (114), Côte d'Ivoire (142), Burkina Faso (152) Zimbabwe (155), Gabon (162), Niger (160) and Senegal (163)," noted the daily Le Jour on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
In the paper, three major points emerged as markers in a process of improving the business climate in Cameroon. These include the "simplifying procedures, shortening deadlines and cost reductions."
"These markers or constants that apply to regulatory considerations was challenged and with political authority for the improvement of the business climate as well as the establishment of a framework so that the development of private sector job creation would not be mere words or declarations of intent," said Le Jour.
The Doing Business report started publication since 2003 by the World Bank Group. This was the result of an annual study to measure and compare the impact of regulations on the private sector and especially SMEs in 189 countries.
The objective of this report is to give the States a committee to facilitate and accelerate reforms and improve the rules that underpin the development of private enterprises.
