A delegation from the Republic of Congo led by Henri Ossébi, Minister of Energy and Hydraulique (photo, blue suit on the right), carried out a working visit in Yaoundé from September 23 to 27, 2015.
This working visit was an opportunity for the Minister of Water and Energy of Cameroon, Dr. Basile Atangana Kouna, (photo: to the right of the Ambassador of Congo) and his Congolese counterpart, as well as associate experts of their delegations, examine the updated timeline and funding options of revisions of the hydroelectric project by Chollet.
This was after the signing of acts of appointment of the governing bodies of this important project, which will have its headquarters in Brazzaville in 3 to 4 months.
As a reminder, the hydroelectric development by Chollet is a volume of 600 MW of installed power and whose development is followed very closely by the head of the state of Cameroon, Paul Biya, and his Congolese counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso.
During an important meeting in Yaoundé on September 25, 2015, the two Ministers demonstrated their desire to see this project proceed under the best of conditions. For Dr. Basile Atangana Kouna, Cameroonian Minister of Water and Energy, it was an issue to “make the Chollet dam project, the unshakeable Foundation of the interconnection between our two countries” as the two Cameroonian and Congolese leaders so wished.
The Congolese Energy and Hydraulics Minister, Henri Ossébi, who did not disclose the cost of this project to the press, announced that the two parties will meet in January 2016 in Brazzaville for an assessment of the state of progress of the project.
