They call on mobile consumers to off their phones between 6:00 and 11:00 am.
“If you are MTN, if you are Orange, from 6:00 to 11:00, on Sunday, Jan. 10, you who suffer the miasma, sarcasm, torture, ingratitude and wickedness of MTN and Orange, you should just turn off your phone. We do not ask you to go walking, being where you are, just turn off your phone “, said Delor Magellan Kamseu Kamgaing, President of the Cameroon Consumers League (CCL), on Friday, January 8th, 2016, live from FM Amplitude, an urban radio in Yaounde.

Since December 16th, 2016, the mobile operators MTN Cameroon and Orange announced the availability of the network and services of fourth generation (4G) in Cameroon. Through the pompous announcements, the main competitors in the Cameroonian market of mobile network delivered a marketing war. But the consumer felt no significant change in the quality of service. Voices were raised to scream at the scam, until the regulator, the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (TRA), made an explanation.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 7th, 2016, the TRA notified the mobile operators Orange and MTN Cameroon, especially the view that the terms of reference for the operationalization of the 4th generation network (4G) to Cameroon were not respected. In this communique read on the 1:00 PM news on CRTV radio, the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency shows unequivocally that they still have the power to make mobile operators respect the standards.

Thus, it’s from this communique that the CCL invites consumers to boycott both companies. By doing so, “it will get them the next day on Monday to start respecting us ending false advertising,” hopes Delor Magellan Kamseu Kamgaing. “They have to recognize that they are still on the same as 3G and 3G service is not yet total. There is no 4G in Cameroon, “he says. Are Cameroonians going to follow the boycott? This is certainly the wish of the Cameroon Consumers League.
