The Casino supermarket, controlled by the Mercury International, has now included local products to its goods.

During the inauguration of the first hypermarket of the French chain, Super U, (June 30, 2015 in Douala) the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, wished that "the cassava from Ngoulémakong, plantain from Njombé, the yam from Mbe, the Ngaoundal beef, fish from Youpe, shrimps of Kribi "find" their rightful place on the shelves, as well as manufactured goods from import."

In recent months, the Casino supermarket in Yaounde acquired cassava sticks commonly called "bobolos"; mitoumba, sort of popular cassava cake from Bassa countries; fufu corn; or taro, etc. These foodstuff are under very good condition and well packaged.

Even though the prices for these local products are "slightly higher than those sold in the markets, where they abound, customers often purchase them," officials of the supermarket informed.

They noted, however, that the bulk of the clientele is recruited from among the members of the diaspora. Thus people buy and send them to friends and families abroad.
