The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) has disclosed its intention to reform Cameroon’s postal sector.

This was after a consultation was opened on Wednesday between Minette Libom Li Likeng and some private operators on how to revamp the sector.

"Together we build a viable and sustainable postal market in Cameroon." This was the theme of the consultation held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, between the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) Minette Libom Likeng Li, and some private operators.

According to Minette Libom Li Likeng, Wednesday's meeting, first of its kind, aims to develop action synergy between operators and guardianship. This is to structure better postal regulation in Cameroon to improve its impact on the market and promote fair competition.

It is also about ensuring the quality of the public service supply and protects the possible consumer abuse. In this momentum, better planning of postal reform will be developed, and a framework for the exercise of messaging and transfer will be established.

The exchanges on the regulation of the postal sector in Cameroon occur in a context of anarchic exploitation of that area by "non-law-abiding" operators.

According to exchanges from Yaoundé, nearly 200 listed operators illegally operate on the national territory.
