Rising cocoa price in Cameroon

In Cameroon, cocoa producers are rubbing their hands for some time with the significant increase in cocoa prices per kilograms which is currently trading at 1,750 FCFA against 1550 FCFA in November.

In some areas of high production as the boroughs of Ndom and Nyanon in the Littoral Region, producers dictate their law to buyers who, for one of the few times, are struggling.

"We let the price of the kilogram to 1750 FCFA. Those who do not want to buy our products at this price can always go elsewhere. This is the reason why we organized a cooperative, to avoid buyers from cheating us," said Jean Nguimbis, president of an agricultural cooperative at Ndemè in the Department of Sanaga-Maritime, Littoral region.

"This rise in prices is not without regret for producers since it is our last harvest that we have put on the market," he said.

According to the producers, by February, there will be more pods and added that "here at home, we sell our cocoa last harvests between the months of January and February”.
