Seventy-six Cameroonian citizens who have lived many years in Equatorial Guinea were repatriated from the country.
Four Malians were also expelled from Equatorial Guinea.
According to Le Messager newspaper on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, no action was taken by the Cameroonian authorities to ensure their return to their respective families.
“I’ve been in Equatorial Guinea for 4 years. I have all my things in this country where I was working in a civil engineering electricity firm. The police in agreement with civilians proceeded to the repatriation of foreigners. They went from house to house to catch individuals, sometimes at late hours. Even in bars, when you are drinking, policemen arrest you. They even go to companies. It is even your Guinean colleagues who are the first to uncover you."
According to the testimony, Cameroonians were expelled from the country on the pretext that their papers were false. Personal items became the property of landlords. Meanwhile, an authorization was given to Cameroonians living in Equatorial Guinea during the celebration of the national unity day on May 20, 2015.
“Interestingly, that day at six o’clock, we were arrested by the police and put in the cell. To regain our freedom we each gave 30 000 FCFA," said one returnee.
