The South Region can now boast of being among the regions of Cameroon which houses at least one university.

After the establishment of the University Interstate of Sangmélima, the town of Ebolowa was chosen to house the annex campus of the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Yaoundé 2 at Soa.

The youth in the region are extremely excited about the new development. According to Le Jour newspaper in its Monday, September 28, 2015 edition, nearly 300 young people marched on Saturday, September 26 “to express their gratitude to the head of state for the creation of these universities.”

They walked past Mekalat crossroads before heading towards the premises of the governor of the Southern Region. According to the regional president of the Cameroon National Youth Council for the South, Jean Patrice Akam, who presented their support to the governor, "young people of the South Region will not have to experience the agony of their elders to face the hard life of large cities to study at the university.”

“These young people now have the opportunity to attend the University Interstate of Sangmélima in Ebolowa to study and they remain close to their families," said the regional president of the National Council on Youth Cameroon of the South.

For his part, the governor of the Southern Region, Jules Marcellin Ndjaga, while welcoming the young people, HE especially urged them to turn their backs on laziness, alcohol and the easy life to really enjoy opportunities offered by the arrival of the university in the region, concluded the newspaper.
