Heavy rains isolate the Eastern Region

The city of Batouri, in eastern Cameroon border of the Central African Republic, is cut off from the rest of the country following the collapse of the bridge over the river Kadey, due to heavy rains that hit parts of Cameroon recently.

For now, it is impossible to cross the river from Batouri to Bertoua, the regional capital and this is disrupting activities, including internal and external business towards the Central African Republic.

"It rained for three days here. We can no longer control the situation," complain residents caught in the waters.

At Sambo high school, like in other public schools of the same village, the classrooms are empty as teachers and students who live on the other side of the river can not cross.

The authorities who have dispatched field technicians promised to remedy the situation as soon as possible, while the rains continue to fall.
