The unfortunate incident occurred last Monday, following an explosion caused by a collision between a pick-up truck and a transport bus.
Christian P, with a photo of one boy believed to be a victim of the accident, made enquiries at the surgical emergencies in the central hospital of Yaoundé. He wanted to confirm if his son was among the victims of the accident at the traffic along the Yaoundé-Awae.
"I have been trying to reach my son on phone without success. He was to go to Elat. I don't know if he went or not," he said anxiously. Here, no one seems to recognize the young man in the photo. Same as Christian P., several relatives of the victims came to make inquiries following the news of the accident. Some were immediately directed to the various departments where the injured were admitted.
Dr. Pierre Joseph Fouda, Director-general of the central hospital in Yaoundé explained saying, "We received seven patients with a young man who died on arrival and three seriously burned including another who died around 6 p.m.," he said. According to the Director, other victims of the accident are in critical condition.
On further investigations, it was gathered that, a pickup and a transport bus at top speed in heavy rain collided, resulting in the explosion of the two vehicles, caused by a container of gasoline that was in the car. On the spot, eight charred bodies were removed from the transport bus.
