2.5 billion CFA embezzled funds recovered - Bakary

The Cameroonian Government had already, on April 3, 2014, cashed more than 2.4 billion FCFA returned by 16 inductees questioned for embezzlement of public funds, according to the spokesman of the Government Issa Tchiroma Bakary.


Speaking Thursday night, during a press briefing, the Minister of Communication also noted that fines recovered by the competent courts and legal fees amounted to approximately 602.3 million CFA FRANCS, and damages to 12.1 billion FCFA.


With regard to the special criminal court charged with the prosecution the embezzlement of public funds of 50 million CFA FRANCS and more, Mr. Tchiroma said this proceeding, on 119 applications received, enlisted 39, 52 decisions 36 at the bottom and sentenced 26 charged and delivered 51 convictions.


The Government spokesman also registered in false, as statements of a certain opinion which, commenting on the Presidential Decree of February 18 on remission and commutation of prison sentences had relied on the end of the crusade against economic criminals in Cameroon.


For him, the head of State Paul Biya is determined "to continue fighting tirelessly and without complacency, the fight that he undertook against harm to public wealth."


He, in passing, stated that the application of the decree had hit 24,000 people in 77 prisons spread throughout Cameroon.
