24% of driving schools operate legally - Robert Nkili

Mr Robert Nkili, Cameroon’s Minister of Transport has disclosed that 24% of driving schools are operating legally.

This figure was published on November 3, 2014 in Yaounde during a consultative meeting with stakeholders of the sector and officials of the Ministry of Transport, chaired by Mr Nkili.

A study sponsored and carried out by the Ministry of Transport states that this group of institutions have met the standards prescribed by the Cameroon government.

On the contrary, 36% of existing driving schools across the national territory are currently operating clandestinely. Meanwhile, 30% of these training facilities have reluctantly started the process to be issued permits to train drivers.

It is under this backdrop that Mr Nkili has clamoured for all proprietors of these driving establishments to rapidly regularise their status.
