3 perish in a fire outbreak in Douala

Three persons ages 3, 11 and 40 were killed in a fire outbreak, August 28, while they slept at night.

The victims, including a man of Malian nationality, and his two children from his Cameroonian concubine, aged three and 11 years, with whom he has lived for over two years were consumed by flames in full sleep.

As per the account of Rodrique Tonfack, a neighbor, the fire started around 11pm, Wednesday, August 27 and it was caused by a pot of oil forgotten on a gas stove. The lady had gone to make credit transfer not far from the House. "When she returned, she realized that the pot of oil had caught fire. She asked her husband to get up and put the fire off, but he was sleeping already together with the three children who were in the room” Rodrigue revealed.

Taken by fear, she ran away. Her oldest son, aged 13, awakened by the smell of smoke, managed to brave the flames and threw himself in a pond of water, But, he had a 3rd degree burn on both legs. He was immediately taken to the district hospital of Nylon which recorded his case as "very serious" and transferred him to a centre specialized for treatment in Deido.
