About 40 Boko Haram members took refuge in the Cameroonian island of Goré Mahamat, in the Borough of Makary, located less than 10 km from Bargaram, (Hilé Alifa district), according to local security sources.
Though the people informed that these Boko Haram members, originating from Chad took refuge on the island, they also claimed that they were not carrying weapons. "They probably hid their weapons and said they wanted to reach their country. But no one can say exactly what their true intentions were,” explained Abakar who was reached via the telephone.
Although they have a detachment located at Bargaram, the margin for action by the Cameroonian army is however very limited because of the geographical position of the Goré Mahamat Island, located on the border between Cameroon and Nigeria.
"Goré Mahamat is attached to another Nigerian town, a second before the border is crossed", said a local source. Did these Boko Haram members, originating from Chad, abandon the group or just came to spy at the time that the intensive bombing of the Nigerian Army in the sector settled?
To this question, there are very few responses to this day. "They are trying to flee, but they do not know where to go. This is the big problem with this war, there are not a lot of issues, and once the situation calms down, they will go and retrieve their weapons and reactivate their group. We must open a corridor for those who want to leave the group, and pick them up,” said a military man in the area.
