5 Boko Haram fighters arrested in Garoua

Five fighters of the Nigerian sect Boko Haram were caught by elements of the Gendarmerie and Police at the boundaries of Demsa in the Department of the Benue River. These members of the Islamist sect were reportedly on an advanced mission around the Benue River.

According to security sources, the capture was due to the cooperative efforts of the villagers and the Cameroonian forces.

On January 20, 2015, a vehicle that was driving a Chadian from Nigeria dropped three individuals in the Bolky village in the District of Demsa. "These three individuals were recognized by traders from the far north at the market", informed a safe source. "Traders who recognized these people among the fighters of Boko Haram who attacked Kolofata, directly informed the Gendarmerie who immediately arrested them", continued the source.

In an operation jointly conducted by the Brigade de Gendarmerie de Demsa and immigration Police, Awalou Mohamed, Hassanou and Moussa were placed under arrest. Their interrogation led to the arrest of two other accomplices (Dogo and Balla Garga) who had been hiding in the village of Bamanga.

The five attackers confessed to the police that they actively participated in the attacks in Kolofata in the Extreme-Nord and Mubi in Nigeria.

On a mission in the Northern Region, Awalou and his accomplices had the task to study the entries and strategic points in the North before any attacks of the sect in the region.
