50 arrested in a raid in Bertoua

"Operation Orient", initiated by the administrative authorities and conducted by the security forces, in the town of Bertoua, since one month, has began to yield results. Over the weekend of 26th-27th September 2014, this operation led to the arrest of 50 suspected individuals wandering in the town of Bertoua.

According to the central Commissioner of the city of Bertoua, Mr. Aboubakar, the joint team of police and gendarmerie officers conducted a patrol to arrest individuals guilty of punishable offences under the code of criminal procedure.

They were dislodged, arrested and taken to the different police cells. This operation took place in obscure neighbourhoods such as Radio and Nkolbikon districts.

Those arrested were young persons on drugs, prepared to commit acts of assaults, simple and aggravated theft.

The majority of the arrested did not have CNI, while others had weapons. "They were taken in our services for operation. We found, after investigations, that some were wanted by the police.

Some were in hiding for serious crimes; the less dangerous had also committed minor operations. For those who have committed serious acts, they were put at the disposal of the judicial police for the remainder of the proceedings.

Victims of simple cases were released, in accordance with the regulatory provision", explains Aboubakar. The objective of this strategy is securing the town of Bertoua and its environs plagued with crimes of late.

With the investigation on the mutilated body of a young girl, in the Nkolbikon district on going, the Sherrif of the city adds that "operation orient" is currently preparing for another raid, to put an end to these rampant crimes in Bertoua.
