6.5 million set aside for road signs in Ndokoti, Douala

In the middle of variegated crowd and many vehicles and motorcycle taxis, the police officer in charge of regulating circulation is almost invisible.

For the Mayor of Douala 3, the situation is aggravated by the fact that there is little or no signal at strategic crossroads.

At the Douala urban community, we want to bring order in this chaos. "We decided to drive the improvement project of mobility at the crossroads of Ndokoti by putting signs, because the crossroads is congested with small traders who have invaded the pavements with motor bikes parked any where. This situation causes endless traffic jams and disrupt certain economic activities", said Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, Government delegate in that municipality.

In practice, they intend to establish panels of vertical signs, determine areas of prohibited parking, taxis and motor-taxis, bus lodges heads, etc. There are also horizontal markings: markings on the ground to materialize the crosswalks that indicate where pedestrians must pass, etc.

"When we stop a taxi driver who has parked badly, he would say he saw no sign. The implementation of the entire device has been assessed at nearly 6.5 million cfa.

We are trying to make all the arrangements so that before the end of the month of September we should finish this project. We suspended programs of signs, especially the horizontal markings because of the rains. We will begin with the vertical signs", said Fritz Ntonè Ntonè.

However, there is the problem of sustainability of these road signs, with regard to the fate suffered by the previous. "The Ndokoti crossroads had signs, but many have deteriorated.
