8 Shepherds, teenager abducted by CAR rebels

Eight Bororo shepherds and a 17-year-old boy have been kidnapped by heavily armed gunmen between Kouman and Ngoumi villages, located 15 kilometres from the Touboro a town in Mayo Rey, revealed Le Jour March 25.

According to eyewitnesses, "a group of men wearing army uniforms with red berets attacked a transit bus. The attackers who expressed themselves in French, stabbed a teenager of about 17 years who resisted them.

According to the newspaper, a similar abduction occurred on March 19. A Central African Republic rebel group abducted 9 shepherds and nearly 400 cattle in Mbaiboum, not far from the border with Central African Republic.

On this occasion, the assailants reportedly demanded an amount of 10 million CFAF from the shepherds before taking them away.

On March 20, another abduction occurred involving several passengers of an intercity bus including the Mayor of Lagdo.

According to information gathered by Cameroon-info.NET, the kidnappers are demanding 6 billion CFA francs for the release of 16 Cameroonian hostages.

The Government however began negotiations with the Central African rebel group who kidnapped the Lagdo elites on Monday.
