The campaign also involved public education, information and training on how to disinfect and eradicate rats in gutters and ditches.

The last flood in the port city of Douala was not without negative effects. The aftermath left plastic waste accumulated in some parts of Makepe-Missoke, clogging rain water outlets. It was to get rid of the waste and prevent further flooding that members of the Alliance of Progressive Forces, APF, cleaned up gutters in the neighbourhood recently.

The campaign dubbed, “Operation Keep The Littoral Clean,” aimed to give a positive image of the region by ensuring safety, hygiene, environmental protection and sustainable development. It also involved public education on the need to live in a healthy environment and training on how to disinfect and eradicate rats in gutters and ditches.

The operation was the third in the flood-prone Makepe-Missoke neighbourhood after Beedi and Ndokotti. Alice Sadjo, party Chairlady, led members for a clean-up campaign during which several gutters were emptied of waste.

In the coming weeks, the environment-conscious militants and party bigwigs will be in Bonaberi and New-Bell, then Edea, Yabassi, Mbanga and Nkongsamba.
