The philosopher Marcien Towa was buried Saturday at Endama after the academic community paid him their last respect. His last wishes were therefore that, there should be no priest or prayer at his funeral", according to Prof. Hubert Mono Ndjana, former student, colleague and friend of the deceased.
The academic tribute was obviously an opportunity to remind the vastness of the philosopher and academics. Bold, according to his comrade, Ebenezer Njoh Mouelle, who purposed in his heart that he needed to challenge the idea of the ethno-philosopher.
Marcien Towa was also a master, according to Prof. Hubert Mono Ndjana, "who taught most of the philosophers in Cameroon”. All these testimonies and many others were presented in an opening address at the academic tribute.
Marcien Towa, indeed, started his career in 1962 at the École normale supérieure, as Professor of pedagogy, history of pedagogy and philosophy. Later, he held several positions at the University of Yaoundé before being the first Rector of the University of Yaoundé II at Soa.
The burial which took place Saturday at Endama again, gave another opportunity for the work of the philosopher, politician and father of the family to be displayed to all. Pr. Elie Claude Ndam Njitoyap, leading a delegation of the central Committee of the CPDM presented condolence on behalf of the party, stating that Marcian Towa was the first mayor of the municipality of Elig-Mfomo, where the current Mayor recently announced the creation of a monumental structure to his name‘Marcien Towa’.
Indeed, Marcien Towa, the former seminarian, was an atheist until his death.
