Ten illegal mining sites have been uncovered in Batoua Godole in the Mbere Division of the Adamawa region.
The Secretary General at the Governor’s office in the region made the discovery during a working visit to the area.
The control team noted with dissatisfaction the non respect of norms and the use of unauthorised techniques by the exploiters.
Not only do these illegal exploiters overlook the existing texts governing the sector, several hectares of forest have been destroyed and the Mbere stream polluted.
Duly recognised companies with exploration rights also regretted the fact that these illegal exploiters have infringed into the areas allocated for their activities.
At the end of the visit, the Secretary General promised severe sanctions to those who shall be found guilty of disrespecting the texts guiding the sector in Cameroon.
