American investors interested in potable water

Persons in charge of two companies received in audience on Tuesday by Minepat presented their project to be carried out in four cities for Cameroon.

In a little more than a year, the town of Yaounde should receive a supplement of 55,000 m3 water per day, starting from Akomnyada. This, with the favour of a project to be realized by an American consortium made up of General Electric (GE) and Environmental Chemical Corporation (ECC), with financing from the Eximbank of the USA, for over 312 billion F, an investment obtained by the president of the Republic Paul Biya, at the time of his recent stay in the United States.

Contours of this project were in the center of a granted audience, last Tuesday, by the Minister for the Economy, the Planning and the Regional Development (Minepat) to Chairman and managing Director of ECC, Mangiv Vohra, in company of the vice-president of GE, Richard Ebel.

The chairman of ECC explains that this project of drinkable water conveyance relates to four cities of Cameroon: Yaounde, Tiko, Limb and Mutenguene. "the realization will be done in phases, which first started in November for the capital, Yaounde, which should have finished before 12 months.

Meanwhile, precisely in February 2015, the second phase should have started, which consists of the rehabilitation of the systems of water supply in the three other cities of South-west". The hosts of Minepat announces, in addition, that during 2015, they will launch a second project for drinkable water conveyance, this time starting from Nyong and relating exclusively to Yaounde.

With the term, i.e. after approximately two years and half, the capital should have more than 250,000 m3 of water per day. For the general manager of Camwater, Jean Williams Sollo who accompanied the American delegation at Minepat," all these projects will make it possible to have sufficient drinking water in Yaounde during at least 50 years."
