Cameroonians have been in a perplex mode since the early hours of Monday,May 9,2016, when Anne Marie Nzie was rushed to hospital in a critical state.
The musician with a golden voice is in the intensive care unit of the Yaoundé Central Hospital where several medical personnel are attending to her.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Narcisse Mouelle Kimbi visited the patient and said the measures have been taken ensure that she has the best medical attention necessary.
The Director General of the Yaounde Central Hospital, Joseph Pierre Foude, said a number of diagnoses have been run on the patient and despite the fact that she is a musical icon; she is currently a patient in the hospital. He said according to hospital regulation issues relating to the state of health of a patient can only be made public with the patient’s express consent.
The 84 year old musician and author of the hit song Liberté, is one of two oldest Cameroonian musicians still in active service.
Anne Marie Nzie was born in Lolodorf in the South Region and she has been in the music industry for about fifty years. she began performing Bikutsi music in the 1940s.
She had been given the distinction, Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur by the French government. At her home at the cite verte neighbourhood, relatives, friends and well-wishers have been trooping to have updates on the state of health of the artist who is in a critical state in hospital.
