Anti Boko Haram donations will not be mismanaged - Defense Minister

Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense has told members of Cameroon's Upper House of Assembly that donations made by the people of Cameroon and other establishments both at home and beyond that is set aside for the fight against the Nigerian Islamic Sect, Boko Haram will not be mismanaged. Minister Mebe Ngo'o made the remarks during a question and answer session at the Senate recently.

Senator Pierre Flambeau Ngayap asked the Defense Minister why President Biya has to date not been able to declare a state of emergency in the Far North region following the atrocities of Boko Haram but was quick to do so in 1990 in the North West region.

Minister Alain Mebe Ngo'o observed that the president has not decreed a state of emergency to fight Boko Haram but has chosen a discretionary military measure to combat the Nigerian militant group.

The Minister added that management of donations to the Cameroon army will strictly follow President Biya's directives which were made pubic when the head of state created a treasury account for all financial donations. The Defense Minister added that measures have been taken to ensure that neither material nor financial donations are embezzled.
