The Mindef approved on Tuesday 120 tactical vehicles offered by Berlin for the fight against cross-border insecurity in Cameroon.
The cooperation between Cameroon and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) took a new flight Tuesday after Cameroon received 120 tactical vehicles, gift of this country to the Cameroonian defence forces.
For the occasion, the Minister delegate at the Presidency in charge of defence (Mindef), Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o made a trip to the Air Base in Yaoundé in the company of the Ambassador of Germany to Cameroon, H.E. Klaus - Ludwig Keferstein.
All vehicles received were German-made, and which have been proven in theatres of military operations such as Afghanistan. As stated by colonel Jean Jacques Fouda, Director of joint military equipment, the gift consists of 60 jeep WOLF of brand Mercedes and 60 trucks UNIMOG of the same manufacturer with some armed with Quad pipes 14.5 mm. It's rolling stock that can be used on any type of terrain and at any time. Cameroonian military personnel were also trained in Germany for the use of this material.
Mindef wished to clarify that "this important donation comes within the framework of support for the fight against the Islamist sect Boko Haram and the participation of the Cameroonian defense forces to the multidimensional integrated the United Nations Mission for the stability of the Central African Republic (MINUSCA)".
"I welcome this gesture, he requested the German diplomat to convey to the high authorities of his country, the deep appreciation of H.E. Paul Biya and the recognition of the Government of Cameroon for the initiative of this important gift that translates brilliantly, excellence and the exemplary nature of the age-old friendship and fruitful cooperation links between the Germany and Cameroon," Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o stated.
For his part, the German diplomat noted that current realities are more confined to the traditional cooperation between the two countries. H.E. Klaus-Ludwig Keferstein noted the appreciation of his country for the commitment of Cameroon to the preservation of peace around the world. A donation which, in his opinion, made a new step in military cooperation between the two countries already marked by numerous supports of this country in Cameroon
