Authorities fight against embezzlement of school funds

As a major concern mostly raised in discussions in schools, the issue of the management of the Parent Teachers Association funds was brought up in Yaoundé.

It was during a meeting recently organized in Nkolbisson, by the NGO new rights of man (NDH), under the project "our money, our responsibility."

The Meeting was attended by Chairmen and members of these associations as well as the regional delegate of the Basic Education for the Centre, Jean Théodore Bassi Ngoa Ze.

The objectives of the meeting were to curb corruption and embezzlement in some schools and strengthen the capacity of those concerned for the effective management of school funds.

The problem is that these contributions of parents no longer seem to participate in the operation of establishments as provided. After the collection of these PTA levies, they are not used judiciously.

A source said under anonymity that "heads of institutions often connive with PTA presidents and spend the money by mutual agreement.

Facing these derivatives, the regional delegate of Basic Education in the Centre denied the discredited facts. "Some of our principals, from time to time, want to have a stranglehold on the management of these funds.

But the arrangements are made to ensure that each of the stakeholders in the management of this money, fully play its role", explained Jean Théodore Bassi.
