Ayah escapes death as armed men attack residence

Hon Paul Abine Ayah, former CPDM MP for Akwaya, who ran for the 2011 presidential election under the platform of People’s Action Party, PAP, and earned the sixth position was attacked by unidentified armed men on last Tuesday, October 22, between 2 and 3am at his Buea residence.

According to the RecorderNewsline, the hoodlums who were trying to break into the residence through the main gate only escaped in their vehicle when they heard the sound of another vehicle, carrying PAP members whom Hon. Ayah had alerted about the attack. Armed policemen in two police vehicles, The Guardian Post gathered, also arrived at Ayah’s residence, 30 minutes after the attackers had escaped.

It is not clear whether it was a gang of assassins or burglars especially as Hon. Ayah had before complained about anonymous threats on his life. Critics of Cameroon’s political scene have quickly dismissed the claim that the attackers came for money, arguing that it is public knowledge (both nationally and internationally) that Hon. Ayah has gone for the past one year without salary even as he is yet to go on retirement in two year’s time.

Besides being widely-rumoured to becoming the next SCNC national chairman, Hon. Ayah is a well-known iconic critic of the Biya regime.
