Barrister Akere Muna heads Anti-Corruption Conference

Barrister Akere Muna has been elected Chairman of the International Anti-Corruption Conference, AICC.

The erstwhile President of the Cameroon Bar Association, was recently elected for a six-year mandate.

The election of Akere Muna as Chair of the AICC comes at time when the legal luminary is at the verge of completing his nine-year term as Vice-Chair of Transparency International.

The IACC is the World Premier Forum that brings together Heads of State, civil society activists, the private sector and other stakeholders to tackle the increasingly sophisticated challenges posed by corruption.

With a total of 135 member countries, the IACC Forum, which holds every two years, serves as an avenue for networking and cross-fertilisation. These two factors are indispensable ingredients for effective advocacy and action on the global and national pedestals.

As its contribution to the fight against corruption, the IACC draws attention, raises awareness, stimulates debates and fosters the global exchange of experience and methodologies in controlling and combating corruption.

Besides the above, the Conference equally promotes international cooperation among agencies and citizens from all parts of the world, helping to develop personal relationships by providing the opportunity for face-to-face dialogue and direct liaison between representatives from the agencies and organisations taking part.

Akere Muna’s new position as AICC Chair is yet another addition to a litany of key positions he has, over the years held, both at the national an international levels.

He is, among other things, the Sanctions Commissioner of the African Development Bank; a Panel Member of Illicit Financial Flows from Africa; a member of Governing Board, Africa Governance Institute; former Chairperson, Eminent Persons Panel of the African Peer Review Mechanism, APRM and former President, Pan-African Lawyers Union.
