Biya feeds, clothes Nigerian refugees

President Paul Biya, has donated food stuff, blankets and other vital needs to Nigerian refugees found in the Far North Region of Cameroon.

Handing over the items comprising 100 bags of rice, 15 bags of sugar, 20 cartons of soap, 25 cartons of cooking oil, 40 mats, 100 blankets, 40 boilers, 40 packs of mineral water and 1,000 loaves of bread, the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyiwa Bakary, said the donation from the Head of State is proof of the sympathy he has for them.

At the Mora-sultanate annex school, where the first group received the donation, everyone thanked President Biya for the gifts. Speaking in the presence of administrative officials and over 3,000 Nigerians present at the camp, the spokesperson of the Kerawa-Nigeria refugees, Amada Boukar, broke into tears while painting a picture of the suffering they have been subjected to, before finally arriving Cameroon.

“We are coming from far. The army in our country has abandoned us. If we are still alive today, it is thanks to the Cameroonian army. As I speak, I don’t even know the whereabouts of my two wives and kids. When we are attacked, everyone runs for his dear life”, he stated.

Another refugee, Adamu Ibrahim, appreciated the Cameroonian army and the Government for their hospitality.

“I am very grateful that the Cameroon Government opened her arms wide for us, without pointing fingers at us that we may be carriers of the Ebola. They first of all made sure that we were safe and continued giving us the required medical attention”.

It should be noted that hundreds of these refugees run into Cameroon on a daily basis, fleeing from Boko Haram attacks. They often look tired, near death, hungry and desperate. Most of them have taken refuge in churches and schools in the Mayo-Sava and Logone and Chari Divisions.
