Some suspicious individuals (number not given), feared to be Boko Haram elements have been arrested and put behind bars at the Gendarmerie Brigade Bota, Limbe. A security source hinted The Journal that the men have been behind bars since January 18 when they were arrested.
The Journal was informed that a gendarmerie dragnet swooped on the suspects after a trader doing business in Down Beach Limbe, tipped-off security.
Some of the suspects were found allegedly dressed in combat outfit, loaded with ammunition and docked at Down Beach Limbe, January 18 at about 7:30pm before they were apprehended by the gendarmes. Some of them are said to have vanished in waiting taxis before the Gendarmes could arrive the scene.
The tip-off was given to security forces because the men looked every inch suspicious from the way they were dressed, the Journal gathered.
Zang III, Fako Senior Divisional Officer has admitted that the arrest took place, but won’t reveal further details as per the number of arrests and names of the suspects.
He however, assured that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the origin of the suspects and whether or not they have links with the dreaded extremist group, Boko Haram.
The SDO says the investigation that is far advanced will reveal where the suspects are from and what their mission to Cameroon is. He went on to thank members of the public for collaborating with security forces in exposing the men, urging them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to security and or administrative officials.
Though news of the arrest is creating a tense atmosphere in the seaside resort town of Limbe, the SDO has assured the population of their security.
