The locality of Bonderi in Mayo Sava was attacked the very minute the whistle went for the start of the Cameroon-Mali match.
At the time the Indomitable Lions were playing their match against Mali at the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in Equatorial Guinea, the Cameroonian army were also engaged in a very tough battle in the far North with Boko Haram.
Knowing that Cameroonians would be engrossed in this particular match, some 60 heavily armed fighters from the Boko Haram sect launched an assault in the villages of Bonderi.
Intense" fighting ensued between Islamists and'the Cameroonian soldiers who revealed that this took place for several hours. Bonderi residents who wanted to follow the first match of the Indomitable Lions were instead served by sounds of guns.
The bodies of eleven attackers were picked up Wednesday morning. Only one injury was recorded in the ranks of the Cameroonian soldiers.
