CDU Campaign Planning Meeting In August

The party has convened a meeting for August 11 to draw up its campaign calendar.

The Cameroon Democratic Union (CDU) of Adamou Ndam Njoya is strongly mobilising its supporters for the September 30 twin elections. But for now, all is behind the scenes.

While waiting for Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) to publish the final lists of political parties and candidates eligible for the municipal and legislative elections, the party has convened a meeting at its headquarters in Yaounde to carve out campaign strategies that are expected to catapult the party to limelight as it battles for more seats in the National Assembly and Councils.

The National Communication Secretary of the party, Ahidjo Mongwatt explained that the August 11 gathering is also meant to draw up the campaign budget. According to him, party candidates that will be authorised to run for elections by ELECAM while coming for the meeting must have evaluated how much it is going to cost in their crusade to win more souls for their respective constituencies and council areas.

Besides the upcoming meeting, the CDU is also working on complaints that would be submitted at the Supreme Court sitting in for the Constitutional Council. He cited the case of the Tombel Council area where he explained that the CDU arrived in ELECAM office at 10:30 pm to submit nomination papers. After serving other parties, it went slightly above midnight and the boss refused to receive the party files.

However, intervention from observers especially the Divisional Officer who witnessed the scene led to the final reception of CDU files, he said, adding that such problems abound and the party is not letting anything to chance.
