CPDM to address employment challenges in Yaounde II Council

In order to alleviate the unemployment situation in the Yaounde II Council of the Centre Region, the authorities are to organise neighbourhood forums where the concerns will be addressed.

Speaking on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Nkomkana, Yaounde, Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party house, during the joint conference of the Yaounde 14 Subsection, the Mayor of Yaounde II Council and President of Yaounde II CPDM Section, Luc Assamba, said the public gatherings will be to identify and address the unemployment challenges of women and youth. Youths, he added, are the future of the nation, but have so many challenges.

“We will see how to assist students and those without training and jobs. We thought of creating a formal channel for listening to their grievances and seeing how to help,” explained Mayor Luc Assamba. He said the theme of the conference, “The CPDM militant in the face of their responsibilities,” was welcome, given that Cameroon is going through difficult moments in its history. Therefore, party members have to become more responsible by working harder to support President Paul Biya’s war efforts against the Boko Haram sect.

On his part, Youmbi Fansi Roger, President of the Yaounde 14 CPDM Subsection and First Deputy Mayor of Yaounde II Council, explained that the score of 51 per cent in last year’s council elections was a warning sign that the party needed to be given a new lease of life. They had hitherto been used to scores of over 75 per cent, he pointed out.

The objective of the conference was therefore to understand from grassroots committees what were their challenges in order to do better in future polls. According to him, CPDM members are not difficult people.

“They just want to understand the direction the party is taking at any time. The FCFA 500,000 offered them by the Section President was a deserved recompense for their commitment and hard work,” Youmbi Fansi Roger explained.
