CTD workers call for concern over salary structure

A regional workshop on the presentation of the final report of harmonization of a remuneration grid of personnel of the decentralized territorial communities (CTD) was held on Wednesday 5 November,2014, in Douala.

A handful of men and women were present at the invitation of the National Federation of trade unions of workers of the decentralized territorial communities of Cameroon (Fentedcam).

This workshop was designed to present the final report of harmonization of a remuneration grid of the personnel of the decentralized territorial communities.

In fact, after the tour of the various towns, members of Fentedcam found enormous disparities in the grids of salary and other benefits granted to personnel of one commune to another. Facing this state, they took the initiative to steer the preparation, validation and the adoption of a text laying down rates of compensation of the CTD and modes.

"They do not pay people based on the richness of the town where they work, but on the basis of a previously established base salary for all. Therefore, we decided to propose a harmonised grid for all staff and this in accordance with convention concerning equal pay by ILO. We have already proposed the Statute which has been accepted, today we offer the pay grid which will be forwarded to the Prime minister with petitions signed by all workers," said Philippe Njifon, president of Fentedcam.

For Elisabeth Wenko, the representative of the regional delegate of the Ministry of labour and social security, harmonization of the salary of the CTD is a problem that must be taken seriously by all.
