After violent attacks from the Islamist sect, the Fotokol town is under the control of the Cameroonian defense forces.
According to the prefect of the Department of Logone-and-Chari, in the region of the far North "The city of Fotokol is quiet after the violent attacks suffered on the part of the Islamist sect Boko Haram. The Cameroonian defense forces response was proportional to the attack and heavy losses inflicted upon these terrorists," said Albert Obounou Mekondane.
According to military sources, 27 attackers remained behind after the violent exchanges of Monday and Tuesday and according to the same sources, an important arsenal belonging to the attackers were seized and one of their vehicles destroyed by the Cameroonian defense forces. Members of the Islamist sect left, according to our source, the small town of Gambaru, nearby to Fotokol.
Some two hundred elements of the security forces of Nigeria (military, customs and police), found refuge in the Cameroonian territory, waiting to be escorted back to Nigeria. Sources close to the Ministry of defence indicated yesterday that the president of the Republic, head of the armed forces ordered humanitarian support to these people and the development of corridors for their return to their country, Nigeria.
Fotokol, like the other localities of the far North region, is part of the security apparatus redeployed on 14 August last by acts from the head of State.
Thus, we saw the creation of a fourth joint military Region (RIMA4) and a 4th Region of Gendarmerie with a command post at the capital of the region, Maroua.
