Cameroon, Nigeria sign pact on standard and quality assurance

Cameroon's Standard and Quality Agency (SQA) and The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) have signed a memorandum of understanding to improve quality and standard in both countries.

The Director General of SON Dr Joseph Odumodu said after signing the agreement that the essence of the agreement is to help bring both countries together by removing the barriers to trade. Odumodu said: "Contrary to international media report, there are about 8 million Nigerians in Cameroon a country of about 22 million with a robust, active, friendly relations between them and their host."

He said it is imperative to begin to formalize the trading activities of both countries noting that most of the trade activities between both countries are largely informal and rarely unaccounted for.

According to Odumodu, a faithful implementation of the MOU by both countries will foster the much desired regional integration that Africa has been yearning for.

The Director General of SQA Mr Charles Booto said the presence of the Cameroonian High commissioner to Nigeria at the signing of the MOU underscores the importance of the cooperation between both countries.
